Famous Cats from the Internet

Thanks! Share it with your friends!

The internet has brought us many things since it first came to mainstream use, and has in many ways, changed the way we live our lives. From how we shop, to how we communicate and keep in touch with friends and family.

It’s also changing the way we watch TV, films and listen to music – and above all, and let’s face it given the nature of this site, most importantly it’s brought cats to our attention we would never have known about it had it not been for the internet.

Here we re-discover some of the most famous cats the world wide web has brought us.

1. Grumpy Cat

Okay, so to the surface of things here there’s a cat with a grump facial expression and that’s essentially what made this cat famous when her owner posted a her photograph on Reddit in 2012.

But can you claim your own wikipedia page? Grumpy Cat, aka Tardar Sauce, can.

This cat is actually not grumpy. Her facial expression is due to feline dwarfism. Go Tardar Sauce – your 5m+ Facebook fans love you, and so do we.

2. Cooper the Cat Photographer

Cooper is an 8 year old cat who has become known for his photography skills showcasing the life of a cat in Seattle. Once a week he wears a lightweight digital camera fastened to his collar, which snaps a new photo every 2 minutes – cool, eh!

His photography work has been covered in many magazines in the US.

Cooper’s travels have brought us his encounters with local cats, fun in the sun outdoors and his conversations with local cats (you can fill in the dialogue yourself).

Here’s a video showcasing one of his shoots:

3. Hamilton the Hipster Cat

Hamilton the Hipster Cat is known for, well, his fantastic moustache and spawning a generation of famous cats with moustaches.

He has around 100,000 fans on Facebook who can’t wait for his daily updates and moustache related escapades. You have to admit, he’s pretty cute isn’t he!

4. Lil Bub

Lil Bub, similarly to Grumpy Cat, became famous through a combination of Tumblr and Reddit after photographs were originally published in 2011. This 3 year old girl is best known for her ‘perma-kitten’ expression.

She had her very own documentary, Lil Bub & Friends, shown at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. The film also features Keyboard Cat, Grumpy Cat and Nyan Cat. And would you know it the documentary won the Tribeca Online Festival Best Feature Film!

She has around 800,000 Facebook fans and is another kitty with her own Wikipedia page.

What we’re perhaps most jealous of is her celebrity fan base – see her meeting Robert de Niro here! Follow her adventures on Instagram.

5. Nora the Piano Cat

Nora, a tabby cat from New Jersey, first shot to fame in 2007 as a piano playing cat. The Times described her music as being “something halfway between Philip Glass and free jazz.”

She apparently practices daily (whether her owner likes it or not) and has since started taking students, apparently, as she’s recently welcomed Gabby to her piano.

We’ve featured just a few of the most famous cats you can find online – who’s your favourite? Let us know – we’d love to hear from you.
